Why I Cherish Pleasant Surprises

Surprises - Do you like being surprised? Why? Do you like surprising someone? Why?

Hello #qccommunity, trust your weekend is going well. I welcome you to my blog.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! It is what some people shout when presenting a gift to their loved ones. Children appreciate this kind of surprise. You will see them fly all over the place, excited and happy.
However, as humans, we do get surprises from bad or good characters, especially when it is least expected.

Recently, at my place of work, while going around for morning headcount, the chief security officer (CSO) approached me and informed me that an employee had slapped another, and it led to a scuffle. I was surprised to hear that, because signed policy documents have been shared on accepted employee behaviours while on duty. But my greatest surprise was when I learnt the person involved in that scuffle. I was deeply surprised that the employee could engage in a scuffle while on duty. That kind of surprise was unpleasant. So, I wasn’t pleased by it.

I like pleasant surprises, the kind that will gladden my heart and make me feel joyous, pampered, and maybe on top of the world if possible. Pleasant surprises increase my confidence as a person. It creates a fulfilling moment and improves my sense of belonging. It boosts our morale and keeps us happy and willing to do more.

When I was a customer rep with a music and entertainment firm, a client once worked in and after making their purchase of some musical instruments, they gave us a few USD, my team and I were wowed. We were speechless and encouraged to serve our customers more. We went the extra mile to ensure that their queries and complaints were resolved within twenty-four hours. That year, our branch won the customer service award.

I have surprised people many times. As we were celebrating this new year, I reached out to a few women in my local church with gifts, and they least expected the gift. They were very happy and rejoiced all through. Again, each time I learn of a child’s birthday at my local church, I make sure that I buy a gift for that child. However, I do not give them that gift on their day of celebration. I do it a week before or after the day of celebration. I also pay people surprise visits.

Celebrating people makes them excited and encouraged. It makes them feel loved and cherished. Sometimes, it brings comfort and healing to those vulnerable and broken hearts. It also lightens burdens and the desire to do more for civil servants, students, and so many.

In conclusion, the benefits of pleasantly surprising people cannot be overemphasised. However, I do not think there are benefits to unpleasant surprises. Therefore, I chose pleasant surprises because it makes me a better person.
