My participation in the Reflection Hunters Contest - #SMARP round #253: Last Christmas reflections on the eve of Three Kings Day! [Eng/Esp]
Happy New Year and happy start to the week, Shadow Hunters community! I hope you are all well. It's been really difficult to concentrate on writing this post after everything that's happened here in Venezuela since January 3rd. It seems surreal, and the worst part is that things look like they're going to get worse quickly as I share these lines with you. But I decided to write this #SMARP round 253 to clear my head a bit from this whole situation that feels like a nightmare. In a couple of days, we'll celebrate the arrival of the Three Kings to see the Baby Jesus. It's not as important a date as in other parts of Latin America, but we do celebrate it.
That day we lit a couple of candles to celebrate the arrival of the Three Wise Men, and I thought the decorations my mother made this year were so beautiful that I wanted to capture the reflection of these ornaments just as she lit the candles. We hadn't put up a Christmas tree this year, so it's not visible in the reflection; I only captured the image of the small conical Santas and the lit candles.

I took several photos from different angles because there were several decorations I wanted to include in the reflection, like the little train on the right. You can barely see it, but it's one of my favorite decorations this time of year. The table with the bottles of vodka, whiskey, and Irish cream is also in the photo. They're almost untouched, and that's because the night before December 31st, my mother and I had eaten something that made us very sick and partially ruined our New Year's. We couldn't drink anything else; the only thing we had was the Irish cream during New Year's Eve dinner, and then we went to bed. This will be the last Christmas reflection I share with you friends, since next week we'll be taking down the Christmas decorations at home, so I hope you like the reflection.
Unfortunately, here in Venezuela, we're starting 2026 in a rather sad way, and not only because of the current circumstances, but because we've been living with this anxiety for 13 years now, and it's truly exhausting. That's why I spend so much time on Hive; it's a kind of refuge from so much anguish in the harsh reality: we're a mining country, one of many that make up the Global South, condemned to be exploited for the benefit of global financial power. I hope we can overcome this ordeal soon. For now, I can only say goodbye and wish you a more optimistic start to the year than the one we're experiencing now. Best wishes!

Feliz año y feliz inicio de semana comunidad de Shadow Hunters! Espero que se encuentren bien, la verdad que ha sido realmente difícil concentrarme para escribir este post después de todo lo pasado aquí en Venezuela desde el 3 de Enero, parece surrealista y lo peor es que las cosas tienen un aspecto de empeorar rápidamente al momento de compartir con ustedes estas líneas, pero decidí escribir este #SMARP round 253 para despejarme un poco de toda esta circunstancia que parece una pesadilla. En un par de días celebraremos la llegada de los Reyes Magos a ver al Niño Dios, no es una fecha tan importante como en otras partes de Hispanoaméric pero si lo celebramos.
Ese día encendemos un par de velas para celebrar la llegada de los reyes magos y me pareció tan hermoso la decoración de hizo mi madre este año que quise capturar el reflejo de estos adornos justo cuando había encendido las velas. Este año no habíamos colocado árbol de navidad por lo que no se ve en el reflejo, así que solo capturé la imagen de los pequeños santas cónicos y las velas encendidas.

Tomé distintas fotografías en varios ángulos porque habían varios adornos que quería que aparecieran en el reflejo como el pequeño tren a la derecha, casi no se ve pero es uno de mis adornos favoritos en estas fechas. También aparece la mesa con las botellas de Vodka, whisky y crema de whisky, están casi intactas y eso fue porque la noche antes del 31 de diciembre, mi madre y yo habíamos comido algo que nos cayo muy mal y nos arruino parcialmente el año nuevo ya no pudimos beber, lo único que probamos fue la crema de Whisky durante la cena de noche vieja y de alli nos acostamos a dormir. Este será el último reflejo navideño que comparta con ustedes amigos ya que para la semana que viene estaremos quitando la navidad en casa, así que espero les guste el reflejo.
Lamentablemente aquí en Venezuela comenzamos el 2026 de una manera bastante triste y no solo por las circunstancias actuales, sino que estamos viviendo esta zozobra desde hace 13 años y es verdaderamente desgastante. Por eso paso tanto tiempo en hive, es una especie de refugio de tantas angustias de la cruda realidad: somos un pais mina, uno de muchos que conforman el sur global condenados a ser explotados en beneficios del poder financiero global. Espero que pronto podamos superar este trance por lo pronto solo me queda despedirme y desearles un inicio de año más optimista que el que estamos viviendo nosotros ahora. Saludos!
