Enjoying a cold Águila beer while having lunch on a hot afternoon in Caracas [Eng/Esp]

A big hello to all my friends in the Beer community! It's been a while since I've written reviews for the community, but my trips in search of new commercial and craft beer brands have been unsuccessful! I usually buy beer at the end of each month, but it seems things are getting more complicated than we expected here in Venezuela. Imported products are hardly arriving anymore, so I've had to take long trips looking for new beers to review. On my last shopping trip to supermarkets in eastern Caracas, I got several beers to share with my brother this weekend. We got two brands: Corona, which we've already reviewed here, and a beer I hadn't had the chance to try before: Águila from our sister republic of Colombia! I left the Coronas for my brother and kept the Águilas for myself, waiting for the perfect moment to try them, and that moment arrived today. But before I tell you about my experience with this Colombian beer, I want to nominate my esteemed friend @culebro for this beer challenge in its week 461! He's already shown me his love for beer on other occasions, so I invite him to participate in this #BeerSaturday Challenge.
I arrived extremely tired from my teaching duties in the university lab, and the heat today was relentless! I arrived not only hot and thirsty but also hungry. I hadn't made any lunch at all, so I decided to make something quick to eat. I had also made mango juice, but it was so hot that what I really wanted to cool down was a good beer, and that's when I remembered I still had my Águila beer in the freezer!
I had already tried several Colombian beers that had arrived on the Venezuelan market, but this one caught my attention first because of its history—113 years of history! The second reason is that it's a classic lager with an alcohol content of 4%, ideal to pair with barbecues. In fact, I had bought some sausages and chorizo to have a barbecue at home, but circumstances led me to give them their due today. So I decided to make lunch quickly: a chicken milanesa that I had already seasoned and dressed properly, some quick pasta to go with it, and a couple of plantain slices. I wanted to make a salad, but I had to get back to the university to attend to a postgraduate thesis, so our lunch, although simple, was substantial enough to recharge my batteries. Now it was time for the most important thing: opening the beer to taste the first sips.

The presentation of this beer is undoubtedly eye-catching. The tricolor design with an eagle taking flight lives up to its name: Águila Original! Upon opening the can and beginning to pour, its intense yellow color and classic head revealed its classic lager nature, reminiscent of Venezuelan Solera Light. Without hesitation, I took the first sip, as the heat had me exhausted! The immediate sensation was of a classic, balanced, refreshing, very smooth, and light beer. I felt like life was returning to me, and then I proceeded to enjoy my lunch.
Now, if there's one thing I didn't like about this presentation, it's the small volume, 270 mL, which seems very little to me. Fortunately, I had bought two cans of this wonderful beer. Even so, this is a fairly affordable beer. At $1.10, it's worth buying if you want to try something different from the beers on the Venezuelan market.
I really enjoyed lunch with this beer, which is convincing me to buy at least two six-packs for when I have that barbecue with my brother. That way, he'll have the chance to try this great beer when we have a barbecue for our mother, since we celebrate Mother's Day this second Sunday in May!
In short, friends, this beer more than lived up to expectations! It's very smooth, refreshing, and a great accompaniment to lunch. I give it a solid 8.5/10. It reminded me a lot of Andina beer, which is also Colombian and equally exceptional, but I find Águila to be more balanced, with a more refined flavor, and that's why it's become my favorite Colombian beer! Un gran saludos amigos de la comunidad Beer! Tenía ya un tiempo que no escribía reseñas para la comunidad pero mis viajes en búsqueda de nuevas marcas de cervezas comerciales o artesanales han sido infructuosas! Normalmente compro cervezas los últimos días de cada mes pero al parecer las cosas se están complicando más de lo que esperábamos aquí en Venezuela, ya casi no llegan productos importados, así que he tenido que dar largos viajes buscando nuevas cervezas que reseñar. En mi última compra en supermercados del este de Caracas conseguí varias cervezas para compartir con mi hermano este fin de semana, conseguimos 2 marcas: Corona, que ya la hemos reseñado aquí y un cerveza que no había tenido la oportunidad de probar: Águila de la hermana república de Colombia! Les dejé las Corona a mi hermano y yo me quedé con las Águilas, esperando el momento ideal para probarlas, y ese momento llegó justamente el día de hoy. Pero antes de echarte el cuento de mi experiencia con esta cerveza colombiana, quiero nominar para este reto cervecero en su semana 461 a mi estimado @culebro! Ya en otras oportunidades me ha demostrado su gusto por la cerveza, así que lo invito a participar en este #BeerSaturday Challenge.
Llegué extremadamente cansado de mis labores docentes en el laboratorio de la Universidad y el calor hoy estuvo inclemente! Llegue no solo con calor y sed, sino con hambre también, no había hecho absolutamente nada de almuerzo así que decidí hacer algo rápido para comer. También había hecho un jugo de mango pero era tanto el calor, que más bien lo que me apetecía para refrescarme era una buena cerveza, y fue allí que había recordado que aún tenía mi cerveza Águila en el congelador!
Ya había probado varias cervezas colombianas que habían llegado al mercado venezolano, pero esta me llamó la atención primero por su trayectoria, 113 años de historia acuestas! La segunda razón es que esta es una clásica cerveza lager con un grado alcohólico de 4% ideal para acompañar con asados, de hecho había comprado unas salchichas y chorizos para hacer un asado en casa, pero las circunstancias me llevaron ha darles su bautizo de fuego hoy. Decidí entonces hacer el almuerzo rápidamente: una milanesa de pollo que ya había condimentado y aliñado adecuadamente, una rápida pasta para acompaña junto a un par de tajadas. Quería hacer una ensalada pero tenía que regresar a la universidad para atender una tesis de postgrado, así que nuestro almuerzo aunque fue algo sencillo, fue lo suficientemente sustancial para recargar energías. Tocaba ahora lo más importante abrir la cerveza para catar los primeros sorbos.

La presentación de esta cerveza es sin duda muy llamativo, el tricolor con un águila levantando el vuelo, le hace honor a su nombre: Águila Original! Al destapar la lata y comenzar a servir, su intenso amarillo y espuma clásica delataron su naturaleza de lager clásica me recuerda a la Solera light venezolana. Sin pensarlo dos veces procedí a dar el primer sorbo ya que el calor me tenía desgastado! La sensación inmediata fue de una clásica cerveza equilibrada, refrescante, muy suave y ligera. Sentí que la vida me volvía al cuerpo nuevamente y procedí después a probar mi almuerzo.
Ahora bien, si hay algo que no me gustó de esta presentación es su escaso volumen, 270 mL que se me hacen muy pocos, afortunadamente había comprado 2 latas de esta maravillosa cerveza. Aún así esta es una cerveza bastante accesible, con un precio de 1.1$ vale la pena comprarla si quieres probar algo diferente más allá de las cervezas del mercado venezolano.
Disfrute mucho el almuerzo acompañada de esta cerveza, lo que me esta convenciendo de comprar al menos 2 six packs para cuando vaya hacer ese asado con mi hermano, así le doy la oportunidad de que pruebe esta genial cerveza para cuando vayamos hacer el asado a nuestra madre ya que este segundo domingo de mayo celebramos el día de las madres!
En definitiva amigos esta cerveza cumplió su cometido con creces! Ser muy suave, refrescante y un gran acompañante para un almuerzo. Le doy un sólido 8.5/10 me recordó mucho a la cerveza Andina que también es colombiana e igualmente es excepcional pero esta cerveza Águila la siento más equilibrada, con un sabor más depurado y por eso se ha convertido en mi cerveza colombiana favorita! Espero que les haya gustado la reseña y nos vemos en un próximo #BeerSaturday Challenge donde trataré de conseguir otras cervezas artesanales del centro oriente del país ya que tengo que hacer unas salidas de campo a esas partes de Venezuela.
