When you address me, do so by my name

Hello, hello friends of #Hive and the @weekendexperiences community, this is my entry for the weekend topics proposed by @galenk. I'll be answering questions 4 and 2.

4. ¿Have you ever been ridiculed for your appearance? Explain what, why, and how you dealt with it.

Taking care of your appearance and looking your best is essential during adolescence. In fact, "looking good" is the calling card for young people, and special attention and care are given to it at this age. Girls begin to wear light makeup, such as lip gloss and a bit of blush. Hair is also taken care of, and the use of perfumes, body creams, accessories, and jewelry, among other things, is added to their beauty routine to look beautiful and able to compete with the prettiest girl in the class, that girl who looks like a doll. It is at this age that everything possible is done to please classmates of the opposite sex.

I have mentioned in previous posts that I am tall and thin, in recent years I have gained some weight and I am not that thin, but I remain within the range, now that I am an adult, something that did not happen in my childhood and adolescence. A coworker wanted to ridicule me for my height and called me a giraffe, when I heard her refer to me with that term, to be honest I didn't like it and immediately reacted with the same thing she was using, this girl is short (quite short) and short people are called floor bumps, I thought for several seconds, then turned around very seriously and said: _At least tall people are elegant and we have the possibility of participating in the Miss Venezuela pageant, something that would be impossible for floor bumps, since height is essential and certain people do not meet this requirement, I think she never expected me to respond like that, her face was a poem, she remained in absolute silence, seeing that I had the intention of speaking, I turned to her looking at her fixedly and said: _Although there is a very trite phrase, that the best perfume comes in a small bottle, it is a luxury that we tall people can give ourselves, because we can also use that perfume and smell very nice, finally and visibly annoyed I emphasized; The next time you address me, do it by my name, she managed to hide it and replied: You can't play with me, I quickly argued: _At no time have I asked you to play with me, I repeat, the next time you address me do it by my name.

To say that I took it lightly would be a lie, because that was not the case. I can tolerate being told that I am tall and thin, but I never expected to be called by the name of an animal. In my defense, I used the same strategy but in reverse.

Regarding question 2:

Have you ever done something reckless, inappropriate, or insensitive in your life? Explain.

It sounds a little contradictory, and it seems like it was on purpose, but it just happened, several months after the incident with my coworker, I did something reckless with the girl who made fun of my height, by coincidence of life she and I ended up working in the same office and at Christmas time we used to decorate and place Christmas motifs in it, we all promised to bring an ornament or arrangement to place in the office, for my part I brought an ornament that I sewed, when I returned from work I looked for the patterns, and I made a red bell, I added several accessories and took it the next day, other colleagues also brought their ornament and just when I was going to place the bell on the table, I saw one that caught my attention, it was some kind of reindeer, or at least that's how I saw it, it didn't look like a reindeer at all, I don't know if it was the face, the antlers, or the color but it looked strange, without thinking much I said out loud, this reindeer seems to be deformed, I think the mold was damaged, I think it's from another time of year and it doesn't go with Christmas, it's the first time I've seen a reindeer like that, and I insist it doesn't look alike, maybe it had the flu and that's why its face is so sad and its antlers are droopy, I continued explaining my vision of the reindeer without knowing that the owner, the girl who had made it was behind me.

The companions who were in front were making signs to me, but since I was inspired making fun of the reindeer, I did not understand, the girl I think felt uncomfortable, because she stood in front of me very seriously so that I understood that she was there, when I saw her I felt a little sorry, because she knew that I was making fun of her ornament and I opted for the simplest solution and I said to her; - I think the reindeer has the flu and needs a touch-up, she annoyed took the reindeer and put it in her purse, I only managed to hear when she said at least I did it, there are those who did nothing, since I had brought my ornament I did not feel alluded to by this, due to this imprudence on my part, she was upset for several days, then she apologized for having called me giraffe, I also apologized for having made fun of her ornament and I reminded her once again, that people are called by their name.

Blessings!

"looking good" is the calling card for young people

All people, not just young people.

short people are called floor bumps

🤣🤣

Luckily I'm not short so I'm at no risk of you calling me a "floor bump."

Greetings @galenkp, thanks for bringing up these topics. It was really fun to remember this work anecdote. It's true, looking good is everyone's calling card.

Short people in this country are called "bumps on the floor," because with a little exaggeration due to their short stature, they look like a ball or lump on the floor. Ha ha, you're safe and in the elegant category 😅😂🤣

Have a great week!

well, she got what she deserved... Golden rule "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".. The incident resulted in something good.. she realized what she did was wrong and apologized.. That's what is important..

Greetings @vvodjiu, it's true, we should treat others as we want to be treated. In both situations, I made it very clear that he should address people by their name, not with derogatory nicknames.

Happy to read that you got things sorted out there! That does read like two quite uncomfortable situations. I probably wouldn't have reacted as cool & collected :-D

Hello, both situations were somewhat awkward. The important thing was that they were resolved by emphasizing the importance of addressing people by name.

Best regards!
