Paint-a-thon event organized by my company

Last Tuesday, I participated in a CSR activity organized by my company. CSR stands for Corporate Social Responsibility. Many corporations partner with NGOs and do several good things for society. This was one such event where, based on a sponsorship from our company, we are establishing a smart classroom for the government school students. There are several aspects to this, where we do some paintings to make the classroom look cool and on top of that buy some smart equipment to fulfil the task.

About 30 members participated in this event, where we visited a Government school in Chennai city, and we were all given a task to paint the walls of the smart class room. After the painting work is complete, they will install the smart equipment. I have some interest in painting, and I wanted to join the event. They brought all the things that were needed for us. Looks like the NGO that we worked with had all the experience that we required. I wanted to plant some trees in the school, but they said they don't encourage planting fruit bearing trees because it will get hard to manage the students as they will climb the trees to gather the fruits.

The image that you see above is one of my colleagues, and she was okay to show her face in the internet and she is happy to share this photo in the public forum. I got her permission and uploaded the photo. Otherwise, the painting event went very well. There were some predefined drawings done by the NGO people, and we were asked to just color them and bring them to life. Apart from doing that, I thought maybe it will be nice to draw something by myself. I did draw something all by myself, and I will share the image of the boy that I drew.

Every week, I participate in an event similar to this, and I have been doing this for the past two weeks. This gives a great feeling. I should say that it was not only fun filled day but it was also a fulfilled day because it gave a great peace of mind since we were doing something selfless. Focusing on something that is good like this and selfless always gives a great feeling to us. We stood there to do the painting for almost 6 to 8 hours continuously, but we did not bother too much about our legs or standing for a very long time. It was all because of the interest we had in that activity.

Another good thing about this event is socializing. It becomes more like an associate engagement activity where we get to know people from the other teams. Some people had great skills, and it was admirable. Socializing is also one of the biggest reasons why we have to attend such events. We will get a good piece of mind after the event.

It’s great to see a company doing something so meaningful for the community. Painting the classroom not only made the space brighter for the kids but also brought the team together in a fun and fulfilling way.

oh, now i know the reason why they don't plant fruit bearing tree, that makes sense, as I used to climbed and fell from a tree in my elementary school back then. hahah

We should all raise money together and hold such events in such schools. This will motivate the children a lot and they will know which field they should select after school. When children know such things, it will be easier for them to make life decisions.
