Shadow Hunters Contest Round 381: The Ticking Bomb of Rural Life in Nigeria

Why can’t this world be easy? Why do we have to go through the stress? Some of us endure painful incidents alone. Just yesterday, I faced another unfortunate event—yet I’ve learned to move on.
Let the past stay in the past, and the present remain the present.

This picture isn’t just about shadows; it’s a representation of rural life here in Epe Local Government Area, Lagos, Nigeria. What you see on TV isn’t everything about Lagos, Nigeria.

Just last week, someone posted on Ecency Wave 👋 about the longest power outage in Europe. I smiled... Do you know why? We live in different worlds entirely. European cities are pictured as havens of better life, but here, we experience power failure—not power shortage. Ha! Painful 😖. We get electricity once a week, and the next supply isn’t guaranteed. Total blackouts during rainy days? That’s not all. We pay bills that don’t reflect the energy we receive.

My dad once said, “This new government reform will send us all into serendipity.” I believe in altruism, yet we’re dying inside. Look at Nigeria’s life expectancy—barely above 50. Many say Africans are strong. Yes, we are strong—only the toughest survive, especially in harsh conditions.

Often, I remind myself: God has a reason for creating everything and everyone. We matter. We’re not just ordinary threads in the fabric of the world—we’re the fibers holding it together. Consider our vast resources and the exploitation we endure.

Hmmm! Let me sigh...
Do you know what’s worse? The rich are called “Yahoo Yahoo guys”—why? Because they flaunt mansions and luxury cars. Some claim they’re “taking back from the whites what was stolen from us.” I don’t support this idea, but it’s their reality. If life were good, corruption would drop—I promise you.

Today, my prayer—linked to these photos—is:
“God, remember these people. Change us. We’re not just fabric; we’re not wicked. Have mercy!”

These people fetch and store water because electricity is erratic. The water comes from a volunteer organization (marked on the black tank).

Hopefully, you’ll upvote this—a piece of our struggles—because it reflects my acceptance and truth.
Happy Shadow Contest. Bye.

Special recognition goes to @ melinda0100100, he/she is a beacon of hope and a true leader in the history of shadow hunting. He/she deserves an award for her selfless and.... Next time... 😉

I'm certain your photos don't begin to show the conditions you endure, but you did capture some awesome shadows!
