The market where you can find the best spices and assorted products. (EN-ES)

Each neighbourhood in the city has a municipal market. Some are larger, others smaller, but each one has its own unique characteristics.

One of the largest markets in the city is the Bailén Municipal Market, located opposite a charming little square that has been recently renovated and is now very beautiful. The market is on a busy main street, Avenida Barcelona, in the Trinidad neighbourhood in the central district.

What is special about this market is that my family and I can find Argentine products there. In Argentina, we used certain condiments and spices that were not difficult to find here. Perhaps there are meat seasonings, but they are not the same as the ones we used before, and in this market we find exactly the same ones, in addition to the ones that are normally used.

Not only that, but this stall sells an incredible amount of products beyond spices, such as walnuts, almonds and many others, but they are sold loose, by the gram, and I can ask for whatever I want. We really like it because all the products have much more flavour and are more delicious than if I buy them in a supermarket; the difference is huge.

But as I said, it sells many things, and you can see that in the photographs. I took most of the photographs at this stall.

But the novelty of it all is that this market was created in 1964 and for more than 60 years had not undergone any renovations. It was only a few months ago, almost a year ago, that a major renovation began. According to the news, the city council invested more than €3 million in this restructuring and remodelling, and I can assure you that it was worth it.

I was there a few days after it reopened and was officially inaugurated by the city mayor, and many council employees were still there working, mainly on the façade and exterior appearance of many of the stalls. The market also has a bar and café, which were not yet open at the time, so I promised myself I would return to see how everything looked once it was completely finished.

So I returned to the place a few days ago and brought back photographs of both moments. It was incredible to see the stalls, how many more there are now compared to before, and all the internal renovations, everything impeccable. In addition to the amount of space they have dedicated to creating more stalls, there is now the possibility for more people to sell their products there.

Another important aspect was the order and cleanliness of the entire place, the wide walkways and open spaces in some areas. It really is very large and worth visiting. The day I went was a Monday, so the fishmongers were closed, but there are also stalls selling Argentine meat, which I really liked. There is something for everyone, with a wide variety of stalls and very good service everywhere.

Of course, I focused on the stall I was going to, but I took a tour of all the aisles. I wanted to see how the place had turned out, and it was great. The renovation had made the market impeccable and very comfortable, both for the stalls and for the people who come to buy a wide variety of products.

Amonet.

There are butchers, greengrocers, fishmongers, clothes repair shops, delicatessens, stalls selling spices and loose goods, frozen foods, haberdasheries and much more. In addition, there are many places ready for new stalls and that is the most important thing: opportunities. Another thing is that they deliver to your home and now accept card payments, which is a new feature that wasn't available at the spice stall, at least.

The city is always renewing and improving itself, and in this case, the benefits are for both workers and consumers. It's a pleasure to go shopping at the Bailén market.

Thank you very much for joining me today. Best regards. See you soon.
Amonet.

I love spices and use a great variety when cooking, and would definitely find new spices here, but I'm not a fan of bulk, I'd rather buy packed spices.

We use a lot of them at home too, and I think I got that habit of buying them in bulk from my mother... That day I also bought walnuts there, they were delicious and I have enough left to make a cake!😃

Ehhh, the market's huge and they really have a lot of products, I am curious if we can find Filipino products in there as well, just really curious hehe. The place really is spacious too, like if lots of people decided to shop at the same time, shopping would still be awesome coz it won't be too crowded easily. And every is well organized.

How are you, dear friend @avdesing?

How wonderful that you visited this beautiful market and discovered the Argentinian products you used in your recipes; cooking with familiar flavors makes you feel right at home.

It's marvelous to be able to visit a place and find everything you're looking for.

Beautiful market, I love the lighting and the cleanliness.

Excellent photos.

Have a wonderful afternoon.

Hello Amonet, how are you?

This municipal market is so huge and beautiful! I really like how spacious it is inside and the variety of products they sell.

The little plaza looks lovely; I love those big palm trees.

Good afternoon @avdesing, I loved that ending: It is a pleasure to go shopping at the Bailén market.

Neighborhood markets, at least in Madrid, were a meeting place between neighbors and vendors. All the faces were familiar, the mothers (who were the ones who went shopping) talked about their children among themselves, or commented on an offer or how expensive the fish was that day. The shopkeepers knew their clientele and their tastes and so they advised you to buy one thing or another.

That era has passed and there are few traditional markets left in Madrid with that air of complicity between sellers and buyers.

I don't know if the same has happened in Malaga, but I am very happy that the local authorities promote the compara in the neighborhood markets.

Regarding the current appearance of the market, it looks, as you say, very neat and orderly... a good place to go shopping.

Thanks for this walk.

A very big hug!!

I haven't been to many markets, just for spices and a few other things, but I like the neighbourhood atmosphere and all that. This one has everything! Thank you!
