My Entry Splinterlands Art Contest Week 363:

This scary bat character sketch is for a creature of nocturnal horror that blends the biological with the mythological, drawing inspiration from folklore to craft a genuinely unsettling presence. The character is an ancient, supernatural entity whose black bat from is both predator and omen, designed to evoke a primal fear of the dark and the unknown. Its horror lies not only in its appearance but in its psychology and the unsettling truths it represents..

Morven, the shadow-weaver. The name 'Morven' is of Celtic origin, meaning "sea" and "big", but in this context, it evokes a sense of ancient, primordial darkness. The title 'Shadow-Weaver' refers to its control over darkness and its ability to manipulate perception...

Morven is a creature of impossible scale and proportion. In its dormant state, it appears as a cluster of what seem to be countless bats, a writhing , undulating mass of chittering darkness hidden in the deepest recesses of an abandoned cave. When it takes its true form, it is a single, immense bat-larger than a bear, with a wingspan that can blot out the moon..

Its fir is not fur at all, but a tapestry of black, leathery patches and swirling shadows that seem to absorb all light. It's wings are skeletal and membrane-thin, like dried and stretched skin over bone, with jagged, razor- sharp claws at the joints. The wings are often torn and ragged , testament to its immense age and countless battles, but they can knit themselves back together with a disturbing, wet-ripping sound.

Morven's face is a study in macabre evolution. Its snout is elongated and filled with rows of needle-like teeth, constantly dripping with a black, viscous fluid. Its eyes are the most terrifying feature: two pulsing, bioluminescent orbs of pure, malevolent red, glowing from within the obsidian gloom of its face. They do not reflect light but absorb it leaving behind a chilling void.

Morven is not driven by simple hunger or malice. It is an ancient predator motivated by a need to instill and feed or fear .it understands that the taste of pure terror is far more satisfying and lasting than the fleeting warmth of blood. It is a tormentor pysiological that haunts its victims long before it reveals itself.

The creature's method is to weave itself into the periphery of a person's life. It begins with small, unsettling events: a misplaced object a shadow that moves in the corner of one eyes, the amount of a distant , chittering shriek This builds an atmosphere of dread that can drive a victim is already a shattered , trembling reck, their fear a ripe and delicious fruit for moen to savor.

Morven is also a "Shadow-weaver" capable and manipulating darkness itself. It can bend shadows into solid forms or use them to create disorienting illusion. Causing it's prey to question their own saniting.

Morven would function as a primal force of dread , an antagonist whose threat is less about phyaical combat and more about the physiological erosion of its victims. It is a creature of legend , known only in hushed whispers and ancient texts . It's existence is a secret , a myth that a group of characters must uncover before it's to late.

The terrifying reveal would come when the characters , thinking they are dealing with a local monsterz realize the horror is far more intelligent and ancient than they imagined. Morven would be able to communicate not with words, but through invasive, telephatic suggestions that plague the characters ' minds with their deepest fears. Its final confrontation would be less of a physical battle and more a desperate struggle to overcome the pysiological terror it projects. It's defeat would not come from force , but from an act of collective will and courage, proving that even the most ancient fears can be overcome...
