My SketchQuest Inspiration: Arnis and Hybrid Learning
Earlier today, my classmates and I went to my grandma's house for our Arnis practice you know, the Filipino martial arts. It was fun and cool seeing everyone practicing the moves and laughing out loud every time we make an awkward move like me hitting any of them. It is Saturday but our teacher made himself available and coached us through my computer screen.
That's just how school is nowadays, right? Part of us is together in the classroom, and part is online I guess that is how it is gonna be from now on. It felt like a perfectly modern, inspiring moment, so I had to turn it into pixel art as I was thinking about my intention to join the sketchquest contest.
This is how I started my drawing. I carefully placed my three subjects in the center and adjusted their shapes and proportions as I go along. You can see here the arms are a little bigger and weird. My main goal at this stage is get the height and body built differences right although I exaggerated a little
See the changes on the arms I made a big change on the size of their hands and shoulders while establishing the right color for their uniform. I am also playing around with body proportions like the face to body and thighs.
When all the three images looked alright to me I then added the final touch which is the arnis. It is a piece of rattan that is sturdy and tough. I could have made the arnis in a slant position but the pixel kind of style does not make it look good so keeping it upright makes it look solid and easy to identify
