Living Smarter with Technology- #249

The impact of technology in the world today is amazing and has changed lives and reshaped people’s perspective on life. Technology has give us access to opportunities, knowledge and much needed resources. You could even say life is now easier and better with continuous advancement of technology.

My thoughts on how technology may open doors to new opportunities not offered previously
Just to mention a few from the little things that mean a lot in our daily lives.

1. Banking systems: The evolving of technology in the banking system is quite remarkable.
There was a time when people had to go to the bank for every little transaction. Then came the ATMs, which made banking more convenient and helped avoid long queues and strict banking hours.

Now, we can bank directly from our phones, make mobile transfers and withdraw cash from POS machines from the agents that are stationed in almost every neighborhood. Saving a lot of time and stress.

2. Job opportunities: Gone are the days (well, almost) where we have to move around with file in hand and walk/transport to different locations to apply for jobs.

With technology, whether it’s remote or on-site jobs, we can now apply from the comfort of our homes. Technology has broken the location barrier. People can easily market themselves globally regardless of time zones and work for companies internationally with developed platforms (Linked In, Indeed etc) that have no location limitations.

3. Skill Aqusition/ Self-paced Learning: Technology has made it easier to learn skills online and at your own pace and earn certificates.
You don’t have to sit in a physical classroom anymore. With platforms like Udemy, Coursera and the likes of them.With some of this platforms. Even kids can now learn at home with online tutors.

4. Content Creation: Who would have thought you can earn money just by creating content online?

You can earn from social media by creating contents and building your audience on web2 platforms like TikTok, Youtube and web3 platforms like Hive.
This move in technology is one I never saw coming and it’s only just getting started.

How I implement technology into my everyday life
Honestly, it’s hard to imagine going a whole day without using technology in some way. Here are just a few ways i use it regularly:

• Online Business: As someone that has an online store, i use apps like Shopify, instagram and Facebook to put my work out there at little to no cost.

• Creative Design: I also use apps like Canva to make creative designs for my Business and Marketing materials.

• Work Management: Apps like Google workspace helps me to manage work projects amongst other things.

• Staying Informed: Listening/watching the news to keep up with what’s happening around the world.

• Fitness Tracking: I make use of fitness apps to follow my workout routines and track my progress.

• Mobile Banking: I make mobile payments and bank with my phone, it’s been so long i went to the bank.

• Health Monitoring: My smartwatch is what i use to monitor my heart rate and sleep. (Gotta stay healthy).

• Daily Communication: I stay in touch with friends and family daily with WhatsApp and iMessage.

I once heard someone say the evolution of technology has made a lot of people lazy. I’ve also heard of some communities that have refused to accept technology, considering the disadvantages more than the advantages.

I know technology is still evolving. I think it has it’s disadvantages also but these disadvantages are mostly based on how we choose to use them. It’s a tool and like any tool, it can either be used constructively or destructively.
