Splinterlands Art Contest - Week 360 - Chaos Evoker

Hey there, folks. I hope your day is going as well as it gets. It's that time od the week again, yes, my Splinterlands Art Contest entry submission. For a change I decided to draw someone new. Normally, I enjoy going back to characters that I have done before and redoing them to see how well they end up looking after the time that has passed.
This time, however, I wanted to have a go at a new character, thus I chose the Chaos Evoker, one of the cards that I have newly stumbled upon recently.

With that general overview out of the way, let's dive right into the process and how this piece was made.

The Process

As the starting step, I did the line art, and as always, I tried to avoid making it too complicated and messy so I'd have more options to expand from in the next steps.

After I was done and satisfied with the line art, I move onto coloring, and like always, I started with coloring the subject. I did, however, try to keep the number of colors used in the first step limited to 3-4, so adding more colors, shades, and highlights later on wouldn't disturb the unity of the drawing.

Since the last step was finished rather quickly, I jumped right into shading and casting some shadows. I also added a flat color background with low opacity so it wouldn't be too empty, and I'd have something to work around.

After I was done with the initial step of adding shadows, it was time for its counterpart - adding the highlights and bright areas. It went on almost exactly the same as the previous step (excluding the addition of the flat background color). Also, I knew where the highlights were needed since I'd already done all the other parts beforehand. (Although that could change since it was the initial step for it)

Next, it was finally time to shift the focus to her face and facial features. I spent all that time doing her body and clothes, so that I could finally go back to her face without much interruption about the undone parts. Sure, the highlight and shading were an initial step, but that helped the drawing take its shape and feel, and gave me more stuff to work with while doing her face.

After that, it was finally time to do her eyes. I tried not to rush it since I believe it's the most important part of every drawing - the window to a person's soul. And honestly, a good measurement of how beautiful a drawing is. Again, I did the shades and dark areas of her eyes first...

And when that was done, I did the glows and the glowy circle of her eyes next. Now, while I did all that process on her eyes, I did add some shadows and lighting on her face to give it more depth, but I think the most important part of these last two steps was the eyes themselves.

The Result

And last but not least, it was time for the long-neglected background. It was a boring flat color at the beginning and stayed so for the whole time. I added some sparks using the same yellow since it was already in her palette to give the drawing more life...

And this is how the original character looked:

As always, thanks for staying till the end. Leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments down below, eagerly looking forward to reading them. And good luck to those participating in this week's competition. Take care, and I'll see you in the next one... cheers~~
