✦ A piece of toast waiting ✦

On the pristine white plate rests a single piece of toast, perfect and golden, crisp and warm, inviting me to devour it. Beside it sits my favorite mug with freshly brewed coffee, its aroma of beans filling every corner of the room. The perfect breakfast is simple, fresh, and warm.

And I am the master of this breakfast, so simple and so perfect. So I settle down at the table, accompanied only by my most earthly thoughts. I am going to eat, and I am going to savor it. But at that very moment, my mouth agape and salivating, the phone rings. My boss is demanding I arrive minutes early with reports from some meeting that, as always, require urgent changes. I glance at my toast, and it glances back at me, the warmth slowly escapes from the dough: I'm sorry, my friend, I have to go.

There the solitary piece of toast remained. There the coffee grew cold. An hour later in the lonely room, the toast and coffee remain sad and waiting; the toast no longer crunches, the coffee no longer steams.

✦ Una tostada en espera ✦

En el plato blanco e impoluto descansa una única tostada, perfecta y dorada, crujiente y caliente que invita a comerla. A su lado mi taza favorita con un café recién hecho, que desprende un olor a grano que se riega por cada rincón de la habitación. El desayuno perfecto es simple, recién hecho y cálido.

Y yo soy el dueño de este desayuno, tan simple y tan perfecto. Así que me dispongo a sentarme en la mesa con la única compañía de mis pensamientos mas terrenales. Voy a comer y voy a disfrutarlo. Pero en ese justo instante con mi boca abierta y salivando suena el teléfono. Mi jefe exigiéndome que llegue minutos antes y con unos informes de no se cual reunión que necesitan cambios, como siempre, urgentes. Miro a mi tostada, y ella me mira a mi poco a poco el calor se escapa de la masa: Lo siento amiga, tengo que irme.

Ahí se quedo la solitaria tostada. Ahí se enfrió el café. Una hora después en la solitaria habitación ahí siguen la tostada y el café tristes y a la espera, ya la tostada no cruje, ya el café ni humea.
