Echoes of Three

This was a contest assignment. It all started with a simple question: how many triangles have I accidentally captured over the years? Far more than I’d thought.

I first noticed them in architecture. I enjoy traveling through towns and villages, so I take a lot of pictures of buildings — from the most modest to true works of art. Almost everywhere, a clear triangular shape shows up: in the sharp lines of walls, the sloping roofs of churches and holiday cottages. Too many to count. I’ve picked the best shots to share with you today.

The clear favorite is the Bianca Resort & Spa in the mountain town of Kolašin, Montenegro. Its distinctive look is inspired by traditional hunting lodges.

The Kremlin wall in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

An old wooden church in Plyos, Russia.

A modern wooden church in Mečavnik, Serbia.

A staircase leads up to this church — its canopy is made of triangular elements.

A summer cottage in the mountains of Montenegro.

A winter cabin in the Southern Urals, Russia.

Traditional village houses in Santana, Madeira, Portugal.

Also, triangular forms also appeared in my bridge pictures.

A wooden footbridge in Plav National Park, Montenegro.

A bridge over the Danube somewhere near Novi Sad, Serbia.

I even found geometric symmetry in electricity pylons. Southern Urals, Russia.

And of course, sails! I came across this photo of windsurfers. Lefkada, Greece.

Once, at dinner in a Bosnian restaurant, we had fried cheese in breadcrumbs — neatly cut into triangles.

So yes, triangles are everywhere. These are just a few of their echoes — in cities, in nature, or even on your plate.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
